Episode One – What am I doing here?
What am I doing here?
Wow, that’s a good question. Today, I’ll try to give you a brief introduction to this Brand New Podcast and see I f I can answer that question.
Let me start by saying that I’m just an ordinary guy, nobody special, but I think I share a lot of the same issues with many of you out there, who are at this stage of life … By this stage of life, I mean our later years, our retirement years, and a point in life where we are more apt to just enjoy each day without preconceived ideas about what might be expected of us. It’s very liberating when you think about it that way, no expectations, just pure enjoyment of each day and what lies ahead. I haven’t been able to that since I was a kid.
As I move out of the workforce and into my retirement, I’m going to chronical what it’s like to finally be able to stop working. I’ve been working for 50 years and now I don’t have a job. That’s a big leap and I have no way of knowing what’s in front of me, but I do know for sure that I’m going to make it an adventure. many of the basics which I considered before I made the leap to quit work. I an truly looking forward to this new chapter and I’ll bring you along for the ups and downs , the highs and lows and everyday endeavors that make retirement life so much fun.
But it doesn’t stop there. I’ve lived a very full life leading up to now and I don’t expect that to change. I’ve been blessed in that I’ve had many great friends, wonderful family, and exciting adventures. The adventures and special people in my life, have produced stories worth telling and as I can remember them all I’ll share.
I’ve been fortunate that, I’ve been able to travel to many areas here in the United States that are worth talking about, but I’ve also been able to travel to many places across the globe. Each has a memory and I’ll try to give you some information from my experience, and hopefully offer some travel advice or point out interesting spots that I came across with each area I’ve been able to visit.
I firmly believe that you need to retire to Something… I’ve been asked about Hobbies and things to keep me active…..I sometimes think about that and have a little chuckle.?
Oh, I have a few hobbies and I will be diving head long into them as I move into this next chapter of life. Over the length of my working career, I’ve developed interests that I made hobbies out of. But when you’re raising a family and working full time, you never get really good ant any of them. I’ve devoted more time to some than to others, so I consider myself decent in those, but not proficient at any. I hope to change that with a couple of favorites. Golf in particular I want to spend more time enjoying, I love fly fishing and fly tying and I’m learning a couple of musical instruments. I’ll share some useful information about each as I learn more and hopefully get a lot better with them. I’ll describe what it takes to get started with one and why I enjoy some of these things so much.
So.. to answer my own question, What am I doing here?
I’m here to start something new. It looks like I’m creating a new hobby.
You’re never too old to start anything. To walk a mile, you have to take that first step. Starting something new is scary. To do something like this podcast is pretty scary. Will people listen? Do I really have something to say that will keep people coming back to listen each week? I HOPE SO> Will I get this thing started, put time and effort into it and then fail to gain an audience. Man … I HOPE NOT. I don’t know, but I will give it my best shot. You have to start somewhere.
A quote that I heard recently brought it into focus for me.
The quote is from a guy named Brian Luebben who has a podcast and blog and training called “Action Academy” and he said: “Your Worst Case scenario Is Your Present Reality”……. “Your Worst Case Scenario is Your Present Reality”….. It can only change from here, so…
That’s What We’re Doing Here
I’m not a financial advisor or retirement planner, so you’re not going to get that type of information here. There are plenty of people on video or folks on podcasts that are dedicated to that format, but not here. If you need financial advice, please find someone who is a professional in that field. This is a lifestyle podcast that looks at real life situations as we go through them and entertaining things I’m involved in. Nothing more and nothing less
I will always try and keep it lighthearted, but there will be some serious moments when we look at conditions or life moments that folks in our stage of life face. I will speak frankly and realistically when those topics are discussed, but after all …That is Life As We Live It.
As I start THIS SOMETHING NEW. I think it’s going to be fun and I want you to enjoy it too. Please come back each week and see what’s up. I look forward to hearing from you all. Let me know what topics you would like to hear more about. ……………….
